Click the “Description” button below to see video.  Pressing the start button in the center of the wooden base starts a timed cycle.  The mechanical timer in the characters head triggers a high voltage arc (AKA “Jacob’s Ladder”) on and off, and triggers solenoids in the base that cause the valve “eyes” to snap open and closed.
