The story
I like to think of this sculpture as one of Leonardo DaVinci’s rejected ideas.

Conceived after a night of drinking, the master thought better of the design, and tore the page from his notebook in disgust. Centuries later the page was discovered behind a bookcase and brought to life by a mediocre artist. Photos: Anja Ulfeldt

Every element was found — scrap yards, second-hand stores, dumpsters — then cleaned, stripped, sorted and rebuilt. Found aluminum is TIG-welded and sanded seamless; nothing is cast. The electronics are salvaged from consumer devices, repaired and rewired so the piece does something when you touch it.

Parts list

Materials

Everything in this piece had a previous life. Nemo’s own inventory, in his words.

Mandolin, scroll saw, model airplane engine and propellors, aircraft flex cables, bean scoop, film projector parts, binocular eyepiece, coat rack, indicator light covers, motors, LEDs, found objects and machined aluminum and brass.
