Wildwood

This piece began with some sections cut from a wooden headboard.
The face I discovered there was unsettling enough to inspire a whole creature around it. Once under way I decided to resist my typical inclination to think in terms of motors and electric components and focus rather on a piece with more fluid, gestural lines that would imply movement rather than demonstrate it. The result is a little more unsettling I think. The head can also be positioned to face in different directions.
Every element was found — scrap yards, second-hand stores, dumpsters — then cleaned, stripped, sorted and rebuilt. Found aluminum is TIG-welded and sanded seamless; nothing is cast. The electronics are salvaged from consumer devices, repaired and rewired so the piece does something when you touch it.
Materials
Everything in this piece had a previous life. Nemo’s own inventory, in his words.
Car transmission, tea kettle, chair parts, snack trays, head board, decorative shelf, clogs, motorcycle exhaust parts.
